Essential reading for I/O psychology
« on: October 17, 2004, 04:19:00 AM »
Hi,

I'm currently preparing to continue my graduate studies in i/o psych...
Can anyone suggest some important books/articles/papers that are considered
'essential reading'? I'm interested in reading as widely as possible. Thanks.

Here's a start:

SIOP Principles
Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures
APA Standards

Though they are widely recognized as dry reading, even arid, moistureless, parched, and dehydrated, you still have to have at least scanned them in order to do assessments in work contexts.

Good luck at grad school.

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I will be sure to include Organizational Behavior journals and articles in my reading list. OB is a more specific subfield within I/O psychology right?

In any case please keep the suggestions rolling. Thanks again.

Organizational Behavior Management could be concieved as a subfield within I/O Psychology but I think of it as more of a parallel approach. OBM focuses on solving organizational problems primarily through the use of contingency management, although there are other techniques employed.

For an excellent article of comparing OBM with traditional I/O psychology, check out this reference:

Bucklin, B.R., Alvero, A. M., Dickinson, A. M., Austin, J., Jackson, A. K. (2000). Industrial-organizational Psychology and Organizational Behavior Management: An Objective Comparison. Journal of Organizational Behavior Management, 20 (2), 27-75.

For a briefer answer check this link: What is OBM?
