Mickey Rourke grew up spending his time at Gold's Gym in Venice watching the professional body builders lift.  He would hope to watch them close enough to steal and gain some of their knowledge and tricks to help build a muscular body of his own.

He succeeded because a few years later there would be spectators watching him lift and perform his own workouts.  That's saying something, especially as Gold's Gym in Venice.

Mickey Rourke didn't have the normal routine.  He didn't have set times that he would wake up everyday and go work out.  He would show up at the gym when he was hyped and would spend an hour to an hour and half lifting weights and then spend another 30 -60 minutes doing cardio.

In 1991, Mickey decided to return to professional boxing. He boxed as an amateur and felt he had unsettled business to attend to.  After 5 years he decided to return back to acting.

“I've always had an addiction to body building.  I still keep up with the core of the crop when it comes to the top athletes.  I like the way the body looks when your in shape.  Of course staying healthy is a plus too.
