Carl Edwards is the driver of the No. 19 Toyota Camry in the Sprint Cup Series for Joe Gibbs Racing. This will be the start of his 11th season as a Sprint Cup driver.
Born in Columbia, Missouri, Edwards attended college at the University of Missouri. After graduating, he would work as a substitute teacher for some time. He had a lifelong passion for racing, and would eventually go on to become a race car driver. It took some time for him to gain notoriety in the world of racing, but once he did, he would become one of the most recognized drivers in NASCAR.
Carl Edwards participated in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 2003. It was here where he would gain the attention of Jack Rousch. By 2004, Edwards would be named as the replacement for Mark Martin upon his retirement in 2005. Edwards would go on to have his first career win in Atlanta. It was only his 17th race.
2. In 2005, Edwards Joined the Sprint Cup Series
Edwards' first season as part of the Sprint Cup and Busch Series was in 2005. He would go on to be named Rookie of the Year by the NASCAR Busch Series.
Edwrads has had 23 wins, 108 top-5 finishes, 187 top-10 finishes and made over $74 million in winnings in 10 years.

3. Edwards Has Two Children
On January 3, 2009, Carl Edwards married Katherine Downey. The couple has two children together: a son named Michael and a daughter named Annie.
Katherine Edwards is a doctor who helps rehabilitate patients with traumatic brain injuries. She earned her medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine in 2004. She then completed her residency in 2007 as the Chief Resident at University of Missouri-Colombia in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Edwards had previously dated Amanda Beard, an Olympic swimmer, from 2005 to 2006.
4. Edwards Got 2nd Place Twice During His Sprint Cup Career
Edwards finished in 2nd place in 2008 and 2011. In 2011, he lost a tie-breaker to Tony Stewart because Stewart had 5 total wins and Edwards had one.
In 2014, Edwards qualified for the “Chase for the Sprint Cup”. He had missed it the previous two seasons. Last year he finished in 9th place in the points race once the season was over.

Carl Edwards isn't only a race care driver. He is an avid fan of many other sports, including pro-wrestling and baseball. He is frequently seen making appearances outside of the race track.
Edwards has appeared on the cover of Men's Health and ESPN Magazine. He has also appeared in commercials for Subway, Under Armour and SportsCenter. In February 2010, he hosted an episode of Monday Night RAW and is known to be friends with John Cena.
