In recent years, it's become quite apparent that the world of dating has drastically changed. This generation's idea of dating is markedly different than their parent's idea of dating. While everything in life changes as time goes on, we have to wonder if the changes in dating are for better or worse. For the most part, we feel that “old-fashioned dating” may have been better than what we call dating in today's society. So, we have to ask: Does old-fashioned dating still exist anywhere? Are you more likely to find love with old-fashioned dating or by conforming to modern customs? We're discussing it all below!
First things first: What is old-fashioned dating? The idea of “old-fashioned” may by different from person to person, but we'll explain our idea of old-fashioned dating. The way it worked was that you would actually meet someone you were interested in in person. There was no internet, no Tinder, no Bumble, no dating sites, etc. There was no “Catfishing.” The person you wanted to date was an actual person that you saw in front of your eyes. You didn't speak to them online or through texting. You met someone in person, and you asked them out on a date. The actual date consisted of something like dinner and a movie. Dinner and a movie was the old standby and it was a perfectly good date! You took the person out to a nice restaurant and then to see a movie and if the two of you had a great time, it would lead to further dates. This old standby of dinner and a movie seemed to be the best date option for decades…until recently.
We could be wrong, but it seems that dinner and a movie is no longer a “suitable” date. Dating now consists of “hookups,” in which the date entails going to a person's apartment – usually after meeting them on an app – and hooking up. There is no small talk, no getting to know each other, no romance. It's just a hookup, and if you enjoy yourselves, maybe you'll do it again. We could always be wrong, but we highly doubt that things like this lead to lasting relationships. Obviously there are exceptions to the rule. You probably know a girl who knows a girl who knows a girl that ended up marrying the guy she hooked up with three years ago. These situations are very rare. This new dating culture, in which sex happens right away and there is no meaningful interaction, just does not lead to a lasting relationship. If you really want to find lasting love, you'll have more luck with that old standby: dinner and a movie.
