Opposites Don’t Attract: 3 Differences That Are Bad For Relationships

We've all heard the saying “opposites attract,” but how true is that? Can you really make a relationship work with someone who is drastically different from yourself? It turns out there are some differences that are good for relationships and there are some that are really bad for relationships. Read on to find out the three differences that are bad for relationships!

1. Different Political Beliefs

This is one of the biggest differences that are bad for relationships. It's almost impossible to sustain a relationship when the two of you have different political beliefs. Your political beliefs are a reflection of who you are as a person and how you view the world around you. For example, if you're the kind of person who believes that abortion is murder, you're not going to get along with a woman who believes in women's bodily autonomy.

2. Different Long-term Goals

Different long-term goals is probably the difference that most often leads to breakups. When your ideas for the future don't match up, you're just not going to last. For instance, if your partner wants to have children one day and you absolutely never want children, what's the point of staying together? If your partner wants to move to the West coast and you want to stay on the East coast, things aren't going to work out. These are differences no couple can work through.

3. Different Approaches To Family

Dealing with family and different approaches to family is a common problem that couples have. Say your partner is very family-oriented and spends a lot of time with their family members. Say you're someone who believes in limited family involvement and only sees your family members for special occasions. It's highly likely that you're going to get annoyed with your partner constantly having their family around, and they're going to get upset if you try to put a stop to it. This may also become a problem if the two of you start a family of your own. You'll bicker over how involved your parenting should be and it will lead to major issues.
