Behaving Badly: 6 Toxic Behaviors In A Relationship

Relationships end for many reasons, but one of the biggest reasons is emotional abuse. It may be hard to see if your partner is being abusive. It is also hard to recognize if you, yourself are the abusive partner. There are certain behaviors that are considered emotionally abusive and will ultimately ruin a relationship. To find out more about six of these toxic behaviors, read on:

1. You Consistently Insult Your Partner

Constantly criticizing and insulting someone is no way to be in a relationship. Insulting your partner and scrutinizing their every move is emotional abuse and will drive your partner to insanity. Don't be surprised if they leave you for this type of behavior.

2. You Make Them Question Their Reality

You may have never heard of the term “gaslighting”, but it refers to the act of making someone question what they know to be true. It is when you manipulate your partner into thinking that they are misunderstanding or misinterpreting things in the relationship. It frequently happens when someone is being unfaithful and the partner begins to catch on. The one who is cheating will convince the suspicious partner that they are imagining things. This is one of the most toxic behaviors and is grounds for breaking up.

3. You Threaten To Leave Them For Other People

One of the most toxic behaviors in relationships is threatening your partner that you will leave them for someone else. Maybe you bring up an ex or a co-worker that your partner is insecure about. You compare your partner to them and tell them that you will leave them for this other person if they don't do what you want. This is a highly abusive tactic in a relationship.

4. You Don't Take Responsibility For Your Actions

When you don't take responsibility for things you have done wrong, it is a form of toxic behavior. In a healthy relationship, both partners will take accountability for their actions and try to make up for what they have done wrong. If you aren't doing this, you shouldn't be in a relationship.

5. You Lie To Your Partner

If you're not being honest with your partner, then you shouldn't be with them. Lying to your partner is a form of mental and emotional abuse. Being deceitful and consistently lying to your partner is unfair and no way to make a healthy relationship.

6. You Don't Let Them Open Up To You

Shutting your partner down when they try to talk to you is an unhealthy behavior. it causes your partner to put up a wall and makes them feel uncomfortable. It makes them feel like they cannot come to you and discuss things or open up to you. When your partner has put up a wall, it will ultimately lead to the end of the relationship.
